Mărului – Apple Street

After the parties were over, Philip and Irina’s work did not stop. Photos are below Philip’s note, which follows:

One group of children we work with are from an area known as Apple st. This is on the edge of the city near the forest. The conditions here are close to third world standard with no running water or sewerage. Make shift shanties for homes are scattered amongst piles of rubble and rubbish. We work with many families from here and in the summer we go to have picnics in the forest with the children. We decided to give extra supplies to two families there, one of who has a new born baby to raise (6 children in one room) and the other family whose father died this summer.

One our regular lunch time guests asked if we had any blankets one day as he passed the centre. It turned out we had been donated some and Irina helped him carry them to his home. Once there, we found he was living in an abandoned building which had no heating and was full of rubbish. We have been helping him with extra food and clothes during this time and hope to help find a solution to the heating issue.
